I have been always wary even skeptical about TV programs wanting to protect my son from negative influence. But as he grew older, I knew I could not entirely banish TV from his life only limit it and filter it.

Fortunately, we shifted to Singapore where I discovered Playhouse Disney Asia - a lovely basket of children's programs -educative, entertaining and engaging! I am happy to explore a child's world with my son on Playhouse Disney for 2 hours everyday, whoopie! The Beauty of Nothingness!

An article I read recently inspired me for this post - aptly called Benefits of Soul Crushing Boredom , the article published in the Online Wall street Journal is a tribute by its author, Scott Adams ( the creator of the Dilbert series ) "to tedium" and the "heady thrill of having nothing to do!" I agree totally in letter and spirit to the thoughts conveyed in the article...and have often wondered the same myself.....is the amount of stimulation, exposure and constant barrage of information that our children receiving every day - good for them? is it necessary for them? were we without the luxury of gadgetry diversions better off or worse off than kids of today? An Ode to the Humble Kurta Pyjama and Salwar Kameez!

This is an ode to one of the oldest traditional dresses to adorn the Indian sub continent...the humble kurta pyjama (कुरता प्यजमा) along with its variants; the salwar kameez (सलवार कमीज़)and the churidar कुरता (चुरीदार कुरता). I call it humble as it has never really been given its due unlike the Indian saree (सारी)which receives a lot attention word wide and is hailed as the sacred unstitched seven-yard clothing that seems to epitomize the Indian woman. In a week that saw Aishwarya Rai Bacchan adorning an elegant churidar kurta at an award ceremony in Mumbai, I try to showcase just why the churidar kurta/salwar kameez is one of the most under-rated garments ever and why me and my kurtis are simply inseparable!
