"There I sat looking out for the rain that didn’t fall,
Listening for the birds that didn’t chirp,
Waiting for the letter that didn’t arrive.

There I sat pining for the love I could never have,
Craving for the passion I could not rouse,
Longing for the life I could not live.

There I wept alone and forlorn,
Regretting fate's chances that had passed me by,
Remembering those who had too soon said goodbye!

There I sat for infinity with closed eyes,
Tiny cascading droplets caressing my cheeks,
Taking me by sweet surprise!

There I sat with a smile touching my lips,
Humming in my ears, tickling my soul,
Feeling the love within, making it mine!"



I have attempted a poem after ages....I know it comes across as very amateurish but I wanted to pen it down nevertheless...who knows when the next spark of inspiration will strike or if it ever will.....of course I hope it opens a Pandora's box and I can improve on this in the coming days. Fingers crossed!!

Mind Your Gym Etiquettes!!

3 times a week, when I enter the condominium gym and climb the treadmill, my eyes instinctively find the many rule boards dutifully pasted on all the walls- " Gym users must be properly attired at all times", announces one board , "No entering the gym in sandals or swimsuits." The other states the obvious, " Gym users are advised to carry their own towels. " A third asks users to be considerate and limit the use of the treadmill to 30 mins to allow those waiting to have a chance. Then I look around and wonder about the unwritten rules, the so called gym etiquettes-how many of us bother ourselves with these?  When you enter the gym how do you acknowledge the people inside? - with a curt nod of the head ( hmmm you are a fitness freak like me, are you? ) or a know-it-all smile followed by a smirk ( you come here once a month isn't it - and you had to make today that day) ?  What must be done of those people who stroll on the treadmill or worse ...

Moms only know 'P' for Punishment!!!

Needless to say, mothers go through myriad emotions through their incredible journey....there are the obvious highs ....the first smile, the first word uttered, the first uncertain step, the time when they return with their first medal from school or simply the time they embrace u and tell you how much they love u :-). But as much as we hate to admit it there are many lows too.....the 'unable to sleep- unable to shower' state of early motherhood; the bawling of only your infant in public transport while other kids on board are blissfully asleep; the throwing of tantrums in the middle of a shopping mall; the obstinacy of a teenager and the defiance of your kids ( all ages ) against any rule-setting. I faced a particularly low moment a few nights before, when I was patting my 4 year old son in bed, asking him to calm down and sleep as it was getting late. Training our Boys' from Young to create a Safer World for Women!

I have been trying to write this post for many many days now....have edited and re-edited the text and the structure over and over again since I feel very strongly about this subject and fear that my words will get carried away in the heat of my emotions. On the one hand, March- the month in which we celebrate spring, colours and the empowerment of women -beckons us and fills us with happiness and pride; on the other hand incidents of crime and harassment against women in India continue to pound the headlines and shame us. As another incident from my home town in northern India comes to light;  it again lent credence to my belief that this dismal state of women's safety in India cannot only be a product of external influence that it is conveniently blamed on ( immigration from smaller towns, influence of the media, exposure to western culture),- but rather a product of how we bring up our sons or rather how we choose not to bring them up!
